If your team is playing the first or last match of the day at a ground, including away grounds, you are responsible for the set up and pack away of the ground.
It is common courtesy and a requirement of the MWFA for the visiting team to assist with field set up and pack away, as applicable.
The set up typically includes moving goal posts into place, putting nets up, roping off sidelines and technical areas for Mixed MiniRoos, Premier League and AL1 games, and placing corner and half way line posts in place.
For games at Mosman home fields it is very important to display our sponsor’s teardrop banners/flags. It is also a MWFA requirement to display a Defibrillator flag.
In the case of the defibrillator flag, this should be as close to the location of the defibrillator unit as practically possible. In many cases, this will be on an external wall of the relevant clubhouse/facilities building.
Pack up is essentially the reverse of the set up, with the additional responsibility to ensure all rubbish is removed from the technical areas, general ground surrounds and club house. Please note rubbish includes empty bottles, bottle tops, strapping tape, fruit skins, etc.
The home team has the ultimate responsibility for the condition of the ground and pack away of equipment on completion of the final match of the day. You have the right to approach the visiting team and ask for assistance in packing away the equipment and clearing up their rubbish. If they fail to do this, you must do so on their behalf and you can report their failure to cooperate to your Age Coordinator at your discretion.
Allan Border Oval
Please familiarise yourself with the General Instructions prior to reading the specific Allan Border Oval instructions.
Setting Up Procedure
The first team setting up the pitch on a Saturday morning is usually a Youth team with an 8:30am kick-off. Please do not rely on this as you are required to check if your match is the first match on a ground for the day. The manager of that team is responsible for coordinating the ground set up. You will require a minimum of 4 adults to set up the field for play and likely more if it has been raining prior to match day and the cricket pitch cover is down.
- Remove ropes and stakes from around the cricket square and leave them to the side of the football pitch and well away from the area of play.
- Remove the cover from the cricket square and fold it onto the trolley at the side of the oval, as described below.
Important: It is absolutely essential that every peg is pulled up from the cover and immediately placed on the trolley. Pegs must not be left on the field as they may cause serious injury to players.
- Ensure that no one with football boots or sharp heels treads on the cover, as a replacement cover costs $5,000.
- As many adults as possible, but a minimum of 4, should line up along one side only. If the cover is wet, pick up one edge with arms behind your back and move quickly over the cover, pulling the water with you. It is best to run in the direction of the wind as this helps create a sail effect.
- Once the cover is dry, repeat the process to pull it toward the trolley on the far side of the ground. Fold it in half, then in half again three more times in the same direction to create a 2m strip. Then fold it in half the opposite way four times. This should create a 2m square that fits neatly onto the trolley.
- Unlock and move the portable goals into place.
- Nets should already be on the goals. If not, they should be in the storage shed at the Southern end of the oval.
- Put up the corner and centre flags. This equipment is located in the storage shed directly behind the goal at the Southern end. Access to the storage shed is via a key located in a lock box on the fence in front of the shed.
- The Defibrillator flag must be placed on the grass directly in front of the clubhouse, on the left-hand side as you face the clubhouse. This indicates the location of the unit, which is attached to the wall of the clubhouse at the top of the outside pavilion on the left-hand side.
Packing Up Procedure
- In addition to the General Instructions, all equipment excluding nets, full-size goal posts, benches, and cricket-cover-related rope and stakes must be returned to the storage shed. The benches should be stored outside the shed directly behind the fence, stacked neatly on top of each other.
- Please take care when returning club equipment to the shed to ensure it is left in a tidy fashion with due consideration given to the next user. Lights must be turned off and the external door locked.
- The portable goals must not have the nets removed and should be returned to their storage positions, pushed directly back against the boundary fence at the northern end and back against the fence at the southern end, ensuring the goal does not cover the cricket practice wickets.
- Goals should be locked at the end of the day using the chain and lock supplied.
- We are not required to place the cover back onto the cricket square. The council groundsman will do this on Monday morning.
Additional Procedure for Premier and AL1 Games
The sideline and technical areas on the clubhouse side of the pitch must be roped off for all Premier League and Division 1 matches. Stakes and rope are provided for this requirement and are located in the storage shed.
Balmoral Oval
Please familiarise yourself with the General Instructions prior to reading the specific Balmoral Oval instructions.
Setting Up Procedure
The nets, pegs and flags for each pitch are stored in bins in the middle section of the shed behind the changerooms. The first teams playing on Balmoral on Saturday are usually senior teams with a 1pm kick-off. The manager of each Mosman team is responsible for moving the bin into the centre circle for each team to dress half a field. This should be done at least 45 minutes before kick-off.
- The Defibrillator flag must be placed on the grass directly in front of the clubhouse. This indicates the location of the unit, which is attached to the external wall of the clubhouse.
Packing Up Procedure
- In addition to the General Instructions, the last teams playing on Balmoral Oval on Saturday are usually senior teams with a 3pm kick-off. After the game, all teams are responsible for taking down the nets and placing them with the pegs and flags into the relevant bin. Both Mosman managers should ensure their bin has been returned to the shed.
- Please take care when returning club equipment to the shed to ensure it is left in a tidy fashion with due consideration given to the next user. Lights must be turned off and both the cage and external door locked.
- Keys should be returned to the lock box.
Georges Heights Oval
Please familiarise yourself with the General Instructions prior to reading the specific Georges Heights Oval instructions.
Setting Up Procedure
Georges Heights Oval is our most highly utilised oval, hosting MiniRoos, Youth and Senior games over a variety of pitch sizes across both Saturday and Sunday.
Most equipment is located in the shed, which can be accessed using a key stored in a lock box at the rear of the building on the door adjacent to the Men’s Shed. Metal 5-a-side goals used by U8 and U9 teams are stored behind the southern goal post of the senior field. They are secured by chains using combination locks.
The first games on a Saturday or Sunday usually start at 8:30am. Please do not rely on this, as you are required to check if your match is the first match on a ground for the day. The manager of that team is responsible for coordinating the ground set up.
U6 and U7 MiniRoos
U6 and U7 MiniRoos play on mini fields set up across the pitch directly in front of the canteen/change rooms. These fields use portable goals with nets already attached.
U8 and U9 MiniRoos
U8 and U9 MiniRoos play on slightly larger fields set up directly in front of and parallel to the canteen/change rooms. These pitches use the metal 5-a-side goals which are stored behind the southern goal post of the senior field. The nets for these goals and posts are located in the storage shed in bins clearly marked for each pitch.
U10 and U11 MiniRoos
U10 and U11 MiniRoos play on the pitch on the far side of the senior pitch. The goals are permanently in place during the season and so only the nets and flags, located in the storage shed, need to be set up.
Youth U12–U18 and Senior
Youth U12–U18 and Senior games are played on the main senior pitch. The goals are permanently in place during the season and so only the nets and flags, located in the storage shed, need to be set up.
Packing Up Procedure
- In addition to the General Instructions, all equipment including portable U6 and U7 MiniRoos goals, nets, corner and centre flags, benches, rope and stakes must be returned to the storage shed.
- Please take care when returning club equipment to the shed to ensure it is left in a tidy fashion with due consideration given to the next user. Lights must be turned off and both the roller door and external door locked.
- Please return entry keys to the lock box as soon as possible after use to minimise the risk of loss.
Middle Head Oval
Please familiarise yourself with the General Instructions prior to reading the specific Middle Head Oval instructions.
Setting Up Procedure
The first team setting up the pitch on a Saturday morning is usually a Youth team with an 8:30am kick-off. Please do not rely on this as you are required to check if your match is the first match on a ground for the day. The manager of that team is responsible for coordinating the ground set up. You will require a minimum of 4 adults to set up the field for play.
- Unlock and move the portable full-size goals into place.
- Nets should be on the goals, but if not they should be in the storage shed underneath the clubhouse. Access to the storage shed is via a key located in a lock box on the door of the shed.
- Corner and centre flags must then be put up. This equipment is located in the storage shed underneath the clubhouse.
- The Defibrillator flag must be placed on the grass directly in front of the clubhouse. This indicates the location of the unit, which is attached to the external wall of the clubhouse.
- The sponsors’ flags are located in the storage shed and should be secured in the ground in a prominent position on the field.
Packing Up Procedure
- In addition to the General Instructions, all equipment excluding nets and full-size goal posts must be returned to the storage shed. Please also return sponsors’ flags to the storage shed. Note that the shed is shared with AFL and so equipment must be returned to the Mosman FC cage and kept clear of the passageway.
- Please take care when returning club equipment to the shed to ensure it is left in a tidy fashion with due consideration given to the next user. Lights must be turned off and both the cage and external door locked.
- The full-size portable goals must not have the nets removed and should be returned to their storage positions directly against the side fence (the fence to your right with your back to the clubhouse).
Additional Procedure for Premier and AL1 Games
Sideline and technical areas must be roped off for all Premier League and Division 1 matches. The side chosen is at the discretion of teams but has traditionally been on the right-hand side of the pitch with your back to the clubhouse. Stakes and rope are provided for this requirement and are located in the storage shed.
Please also place the plastic chairs stored in the shed on the halfway line for the referees and Assistant Referees. These should be returned to storage after the final game of the day.
